“Climate Science and Policy”Global Warming and the IntergovernmentalPanel on Climate Change (IPCC)by Prof Richard Somerville Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego
Abstract: The science of global warming will be discussed, with particular emphasis on the role of clouds. The policy aspects of the Kyoto Protocol will also be discussed, as well as the role of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in assessing the present state of the science and contributing to the formulation of policy.
Biography: Richard Somerville is Professor of Meteorology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. He has an outstanding international reputation in the fields of weather prediction and climate research and is a lead author on the forthcoming IPCC Report (2007) on climate change. His research work in recent years has been focused mainly on cloud feedbacks in climate and the representation of clouds in general circulation models.
