Final Details of the Visit to Armagh Observatory and Annual Dinner on Saturday May 24th
Members and guests may participate in either or both of these activities. Participants, who have not already notified the Secretary or Assistant Secretary of their intention to attend, are asked to do so NOW!
Visit to Armagh Observatory:
Direct train from Connolly Station, Dublin to Portadown Station (not Newry):
departing Dublin at 09.35 AM, arriving Portadown at 11.09 AM
departing Portadown at 4.38 PM, arriving Dublin at 06.20 PM
Standard return fare Euro 30, reserved seat Euro 6. Travellers should make their own arrangements.
Minibus transfers between Portadown Station and Armagh Observatory:
The cost of the minibus will be borne by the Society.
Programme at the Observatory:
11.30 AM arrival at Observatory, tea / coffee
11.45 AM short presentation on meteorological work at the Observatory by John Butler
12.00 noon tour of Observatory and grounds lasting 90 minutes
1.30 PM light lunch, e.g. at local French restaurant for Sterling £6.00 – 8.00
2.30 PM Planetarium Exhibition (see www.armaghplanet.com)
3.00 PM Planetarium Show “Pole Position” entrance fee Sterling £6.00 (£5.00 concession)
4.15 PM departure by minibus to Portadown Station
This Planetarium Show “takes you on a tour through constellations and objects visible in the night sky as seen from Ireland. The show is led by a live presenter and combines the latest astronomical discoveries with the advanced technology of the new Digistar 3 Projection System”.
