The Irish Meteorological Society

 

About

The Irish Meteorological Society was founded in 1981. Its main aims are:

  • The promotion of an interest in Meteorology
  • The dissemination of meteorological knowledge, pure and applied

The Society includes members not only from Ireland but from all over the world who are interested in weather and weather related topics. The membership is drawn from those who work in Meteorology, Aviation, Marine and Agriculture, from teachers and lecturers and indeed anyone who is interested in meteorology and the environment.

Activities of the Society

  • A programme of lectures on meteorology or related topics.
  • An annual guest lecture.
  • A one day conference and AGM.
  • Occasional field trips.
  • Newsletters 

Structure

The Society elects a committee at the AGM which is held in Spring. Each person is elected for 2 years and can be re-elected twice.

The 2011/2012 committee are:

  • President: Paul Halton, Met Éireann
  • Vice President: Evelyn Cusack, Met Éireann
  • Secretary: Dr Emily Gleeson, Met Éireann
  • Treasurer: Sarah Gallagher, UCD
  • Assistant Treasurer: Dominic Foley, DCU Environmental Science (responsible for IMS videos)
  • Member: Sinead Duffy, Met Éireann (responsible for podcasting)
  • Member: Dr Aodhagán Roddy, R.I.P.
  • Member: Morgan Geraghty, Met Éireann
  • Member: Kieran Commins, Met Éireann (web-master)
