Dublin City has experienced major flooding in the recent past, due to extreme tidal flooding (February 2002) and monster rainfall (August 2008). These events are rare but have catastrophic results. To make Dublin as flood resilient as possible Dublin City Council (DCC) cooperates with 10 European partner organisations on a range of topics including urban planning, flood risk management, climate change, innovation, competitiveness and sustainable development.
Within the framework of the FRC project (‘FloodResilienCity’ project). DCC will consult with policy makers, professionals and the general public. The intention of this consultation stage is to receive submissions and feedback from the stakeholders in the areas affected by flooding. As a result of the FRC project DCC aims at heightening the knowledge of flooding, limiting flood damage, reducing flood risk, providing recovery support and developing a strategy to manage flood risk.
