About the lecture:

The Met Éireann Library manuscripts collection dates from the mid-1800s and includes meteorological observations from various locations throughout Ireland.

This lecture will describe some of the highlights of the collection, including observations taken at the famous Markree Observatory, Co. Sligo in the late 1800s, records from Trinity College Dublin for Easter 1916 and the weather diaries of Dr John William Moore, taken at Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin from 1869 to 1871.

While the meteorological manuscripts were created as scientific records they now offer much more than scientific data.  Each of the hidden treasures provides a unique glimpse into the world in which the observations were taken and tells its own special story of the history of meteorology in Ireland.
