About

The Irish Meteorological Society was founded in 1981. Its main aims are:

  • The promotion of an interest in Meteorology
  • The dissemination of meteorological knowledge, pure and applied

The Society includes members not only from Ireland but from all over the world who are interested in weather and weather related topics. The membership is drawn from those who work in Meteorology, Aviation, Marine and Agriculture, from teachers and lecturers and indeed anyone who is interested in meteorology and the environment.

Activities of the Society

  • Four or five lectures in the Spring and Autumn on meteorology or related topics.See the programme for the 2007/2008 season.
  • An Annual Guest Lecture
  • Lectures usually on Thursday or Friday evenings in Dublin.
  • An AGM preceding a spring Lecture.
  • A field trip in May to a site of interest.
  • Production of an occasional Member's Newsletter.
  • Annual Dinner in January or February.

Structure

The Society elects a committee at the AGM which is held in April. Each person is elected for 2 years and can be re-elected for a further two years.

The 2008/2009 committee are:
